Nature of Teaching --Nature Camp
Purdue Extension Office is hosting a nature camp to educate children about the outdoors.“If you are looking for something fun yet educational for youth during fall break, PE has an opportunity for you,” 4-H Youth/ANR Extension Educator Heather Caldwell said. “Grades 3-6 you are invited to attend a two day nature camp I will be teaching.”
The program is called Nature of Teaching and will be held at Mary Gray Bird Sanctuary on Oct. 29 and Oct. 30 from 9 a.m. to noon.
Youth will learn about the benefits of nature to their physical and mental health, where their food comes from, observe and learn about birds and trees and have the opportunity to build their own bird feeder.The cost of the class is $5 and there is a limit of 15 youth. “Social distancing will be observed and masks will be required during the classes,” Caldwell says. “This class will held be rain or shine, so be sure to dress youth accordingly.”
In order to participate, youth MUST be pre-registered by calling the Extension Office at 765-825-8502 before Wednesday at 4 p.m.
“I am very excited about this opportunity to partner with Mary Gray Bird Sanctuary to get youth outdoors,” Caldwell said. “Mary Gray is a beautiful oasis in our county to enjoy nature and gain peace and perspective. This class is a great opportunity for youth to learn about the environment around them, and how some of their everyday actions affect not just humans, but also birds and trees.”
